Welcome to The Horse Coach

Nicki Marshall is the founder of The Horse Coach developed from her love and fascination of horses.

My aim is to help owners and their horses communicate effectively, to build a partnership between horse and handler that is safe, fun and that will help you to achieve your equestrian goals, whether that’s to have a well mannered easy to deal with horse or pony, as a happy hacker or a competitive rider.

All of my work starts with trust building exercises and I use methods of communication which horses themselves use with each other. All great relationships are based on trust and need good communication to maintain this, the relationship with your horse/pony is the same. Your time spent with your horse/pony should be fun. We invest far too much time and money for it not to be.

I will work with you and your horse or pony so that when I am not with you, you feel confident to continue the training and progress.

It’s not just about the horse, I am also passionate about helping people. I recognise the challenges in owning and handling horses and the pressures we can sometimes feel, especially if you want to try a different approach. I will be empathetic and non-judgemental to your situation and look for ways to support your horse/pony and you.

“If you’re unable to smile whilst working with your horse, it is likely that you need to improve your methods.”Monty Roberts.

If you’re not smiling, get in contact with me and let me help you find your smile again.

My Methods of Horse Training

Monty Roberts

Monty Roberts is well known worldwide as “The Horse Whisperer”. After years of studying horses in the wild, Monty developed methods of gentle and effective horse training and his life’s goal is “to leave the world a better place than I found it for horses and people too.”

I use and promote violence free methods of horse training, following Monty Roberts’ and Intelligent Horsemanship’s methods, based on horse psychology, equine behaviour and equine learning theory. Using these methods you are continually learning from each horse. It is important to change our way of thinking and to think about the world from the horse’s point of view. Intelligent Horsemanship training encourages you to think outside of the box and be open minded to other concepts and methods of horse training, provided they are violence free and of benefit to you and the horse.

Kelly Marks

Kelly Marks

Kelly Marks, founder of Intelligent Horsemanship met Monty by chance at a French Petrol Station in 1993. Kelly worked alongside Monty before being asked by him to set up courses in the UK to teach his methods which she did. Kelly Marks became the first teacher of his methods worldwide.

I have been training with Kelly Marks and the fabulous team of Intelligent Horsemanship Instructors since 2014.

In September 2020 I passed my Stage 2 exams, attaining my Intelligent Horsemanship Diploma and Monty Roberts’ Introductory Course of Horsemanship Certificate. I also hold The Pony Club AH Test Certificate.

As your horse or pony cannot communicate verbally, unwanted behaviour such as kicking, biting, napping, bucking and other behaviour can be their only way of communicating issues with us. Therefore it is vital to rule out any physical related problems by consulting your horse’s health and tack specialists such as your vet, farrier, chiropractor, physiotherapist, dentist, saddle, bridle and bit fitter.
